Poetry Writings at Réalt Na Mara

For our Réalt na Mara Reads (and Writes!) initiative, some of our students composed beautiful poems.

From the classroom window

By Ava and Anna

From the classroom window I can hear

The birds chirping from up high

In the clear light blue sky

From the classroom window I can hear

All of the schoolchildren talking

From the corridors teachers come walking

From the classroom window I can hear

The leaves rustling in the trees

By the flowers and buzzing bees

From the classroom window I can hear

Foxes padding through the wood

Spuing on its prey, its looking good!

From the classroom window I can hear

Waves crashing against the shore,

What a beautiful village is Dunmore!

From the classroom window

By Harry and Harvey

From the classroom window I can hear

A person talking as he is walking.

From the classroom window I can hear

A woman’s beautiful singing

Its as nice as the doorbell ringing.

From the classroom window I can hear

A bird tweeting

I gave him a worm

And now he is eating

From the classroom window I can hear

The trees rustling

Sounds like siblings fussing!

From the classroom window

By Ellen and Emma

From the classroom window I can hear

The birds chirping – sounds like burping!

From the classroom window I can hear

People chatting with a dog by their side waiting for a patting.

From the classroom window I can hear

The trees rustling – leaves bustling.

From the classroom window I can hear

The bell chiming – each ring is rhyming.

From the classroom window I can hear

Cars zooming – music booming.

Grandparents Day 2023

We had great fun welcoming the pupils’ families to Realt Na Mara school for Grandparents’ Day 2023. It was wonderful to have this in-person event back again!

World Book Day 2022

We had great fun in the school for World Book Day 2022. Lots of costumes, colour and most importantly READING! Here are some photos from various classes in the school.

Junior Infants loved dressing up as some of their favourite characters.

Senior Infants certainly got into the spirit of things …

1st Class were very enthusiastic for World Book Day!

3rd Class had a great World Book Day. All the children dressed up as their favourite characters and looked fantastic. Here are a few pictures of the children ‘extreme reading’ their favourite books.

5th Class enjoyed some activities on World Book Day. Here’s 5th Class with their ‘Extreme Reading’. We got into the most extreme positions to read our books.

5th Class also tried a ‘Speed Dating’ reading activity. They each had one minute to convince a class mate to read their book, then they moved on:

6th Class sketched some of their favourite characters from books:

January 2022 in Junior Infants

We have been learning and playing all about Winter. Our Polar Explorers searched for animals in the snow. At the Travel Agents we were packing for our winter holidays and at the Clothes Shop we bought some warm, winter clothes. At the art station we created snowmen, polar bears and winter hats. The boys and girls were also busy building homes for the winter animals.

Gymnastics is our focus in PE at the moment. We are practising our different jumps, developing our rocking and rolling skills and doing lots and lots of stretching!

3rd Class Updates

Our 3rd class have had an eventful year so far!

Communion
After a very long wait, Third Class made their Communion on 16th October 2021 in the parishes of Killea and Carberry. The children all read beautifully and really enjoyed the day. We had fabulous music from Mrs McSweeney and her mother. The boys were all very smart and the girls were stunning in their white dresses. Check out some of the style here …

Coding
For Science Week some of the girls and boys brought in their robots for show and tell. We were learning how we can build robots and make robots move by writing codes on the computer. Some very impressive engineers and scientists in this class!

Tree Planting
To commemorate the new school and engage in some climate awareness, we all planted a tree in Killea.
